And then suddenly Ahmed Farahat was in my atelier at biodynamic farm Vliervelden. Achmed is a physical therapy student (Heliopolis University, Caïro) visiting Dutch farms. My atelier is in the barn of this farm, and so we ran into eachother. Ahmed explains he has a strong interest in sustainable development. As I am a tree man, I asked if he could tell about his tree, the tree from his youth. He could, it was a mulberry tree: “Mulberry trees hold a special place in my life, especially because there was one right in front of my school. Every spring, we would climb its branches, feast on the berries, and toss whole berry-laden branches to our friends. The galery shows the pictures Achmed shot of the tree, opposite of his school. He named the tree  علا شجرة التوت – Ola Mulberry Tree. ‘Ola’ means ‘the higher one’.

Van iedere mammoettanker vol stadsbomen die in de electriciteitscentrale verstookt wordt, trekt Jos Bregman aka Wdwrd er af en toe één uit, geeft deze Boom een Naam, samplet de stam en implanteert een id-chip (handleiding: lees hem af met je telefoon). Het is zijn ode aan de Zijn publiek verwerft een sample en zorgt zo voor een nieuw en schier eeuwig leven van deze Boom met een Naam. De naam en de herkomst vind je ook op de chip.

De samples in De Bron zijn genummerd (witte verf) en te koop. Prijzen bevinden zich tussen 144 en 610 euro – hoe groter, hoe duurder. Stuur me een fotootje met werk en nummer en ik neem contact met u op.

200.000 m2 strand wordt Land Art wordt Bos
🩴 – IJmeerdijk 1b, Almere – 22 september om 11.30 uur – performance ‘Almeerderstrand uitgeroepen tot onderdeel van Het Groot Nederlands Stadsbos –  Dirk Slagter, bioloog en auteur van Ontdek Winterkenmerken, verklaarde het Almeerderstrand tot onderdeel van Het Groot Nederlands Stadsbos – na de opening betrad het publiek het nieuwe bos door een tijdelijke toegangspoort, een mobiele portal

En dan weet je jezelf in een bos! En dan?

1. Een bos nodigt uit tot kunst. Beschouw de betoverende drone-beelden op het StrandLab-scherm. Of bekijk ze thuis op je eigen scherm – de trekker met hark wordt uit de hoogte een penseel dat zich schijnbaar autonoom over een canvas van zand voortbeweegt
2. Een bos is schoon, hanteer het leave-no-trace-principle
3. Een bos is biodivers – krijg inzicht in de planten en dieren via burgerwetenschap (waarneming.nl)

Tijdens de opening nodigden Bregman en Slagter de gemeente Almere uit al het groen dat zij verzorgt, het gemeentelijk groen, ook een naam te geven en het onderdeel te verklaren van Bregmans performance. Iederéén wil toch wel in een bos leven? Bregman schreef vervolgens een open brief aan politiek Almere. Slagter toonde ook zijn eigen boek, samen met een levensgroot voorbeeld van één van zijn foto’s. Slagter gebruikte voor zijn boek de techniek photo stacking. Het is een techniek die spectaculaire helderheid en diepte biedt.

Iona Olm is Om is Bregmans monument voor een honderd jaar oude iep die zich neervlijde, een dag voor de storm van 2 november 2023 in de groene binnenhof van Herenstraat 276, vestigingsplek van Iona Stichting, een fonds voor mooie projecten.

Marianne and Berbel were on their return trip from international knitting workshop in a little village in Bulgaria. I learnt where to find the oldest trees in San Diego (south of Los Angelos) in Balboa Park.  In Gera, Germany you should look for the Kalte Eiche.

Before Zverino, at the rail way track at Eliseyna, the sign shows you the way to a beautiful monastery (photo). The  then residing priest Dimiter Kristanof lived with his wife in Pop Art House until his death at around 2005.  

From Zverino a train takes me to Bucarest.

Osenovlag still has a bus, a life line to many older people up in the mountains really. The bus driver Yuli is my neighbour and along the road he also stops to pick things up or drop them off at someone along the road. His current schedule is: leaving Osenovlag on working days at 05.15 hours to Eliseyna (connection to the early train to Sofia) and at around 05.45 hours back up againg; leaving 15.00 hours to Eliseyna and back up again at 16.16 hours (waiting for the train from Sofia). On Thursday there is an extra bus to Svoge: leaving 0900 hours to Svoge, and 12.30 back up again. It gives people the possibility to go to the Svoge bazar that is held every week on Thursdag. In the weekend no bus service.
